3DxVERSE Project Presentation at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025

Dr. Eusebiu Catana

Dr. Eusebiu Catana, Coordinator of the 3DxVERSE project, will represent the initiative during the session "Barcelona Event -- 4 EU Co-funded CitiVerse Projects & EDIC Digital Twin" on 4 November 2025.

In addition, Dr. Catana will present the 3DxVERSE approach in the Breakout Sessions on Digital Twins for Sustainable Travel and Living Communities at the #SCEWC25 -- Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 on 5 November 2025.

These sessions will highlight how 3DxVERSE contributes to Europe's digital transformation and sustainable urban agenda through innovative Local Digital Twin (LDT) solutions.

3DxVERSE Vision and Objectives

The 3DxVERSE project aims to revolutionise urban mobility and sustainable living by developing smart, eco-friendly, and human-centric solutions for European cities. The project's vision aligns closely with the European Commission's objectives and the priorities of the Digital Europe Programme, particularly regarding the integration of innovative digital technologies into sustainable urban development frameworks.

By advancing the CitiVerse initiative, 3DxVERSE demonstrates how interoperable and intelligent digital twins can foster greener mobility, efficient resource management, and inclusive urban spaces. Its activities directly contribute to the EU's Local Digital Twin (LDT) Toolbox, supporting the creation of a connected and sustainable European CitiVerse ecosystem.

Key Achievements and Deliverables

3DxVERSE has made significant progress in developing human-centric, interoperable, and sustainable digital urban twins. The project's main achievements include:

These accomplishments collectively represent major steps toward establishing a trusted, open, and replicable CitiVerse ecosystem that supports the digital transition of European cities.

Integration with the EU Local Digital Twin (LDT) Toolbox

A key challenge and achievement for 3DxVERSE has been the integration of its use cases within the EU Local Digital Twin Toolbox. The LDT Toolbox acts as a central enabler for CitiVerse deployment, providing:

  • Open-source components, data models, and governance templates
  • Interoperability and standards development, ensuring seamless data exchange and shared frameworks
  • Replication and scalability tools to support new city adopters
  • Capacity building and community engagement to strengthen knowledge exchange and collaboration across Europe

Through this integration, 3DxVERSE demonstrates how cities can build interoperable and sustainable digital twins that address real-world urban challenges effectively.

Contribution to Europe's Digital Leadership

The 3DxVERSE project exemplifies Europe's commitment to human-centric digital transformation, combining innovation, environmental sustainability, and data-driven decision-making. Together with the CitiVerse community, the EU LDT Toolbox, and the forthcoming EDIC Digital Twin and EDIC Mobility&Transport&Logistics, 3DxVERSE contributes to laying the foundation for a robust, interconnected, and future-ready CitiVerse ecosystem — reinforcing Europe's global leadership in sustainable and digital urban development.
